Modelling aspects of solid tumour growth

Philip Maini
University of Oxford

We will address two aspects of solid tumour growth. Firstly, we will consider metabolic aspects of cancer spread and focus on the acid-mediated invasion hypothesis leading to the ideas of somatic evolution in a multiscale tissue model. Then we will investigate aspects of vascular tumour growth by developing a hybrid cellular automaton model which uses partial differential equations to model tissue level phenomena linked, via the cells as automaton units to intracellular dynamics modelled through ordinary differential equations.
