The Direct Accelerated Geometry for Monte Carlo® (DAGMC) library developed at the University of Wisconsin performs geometric queries directly on CAD geometry. Known as DAG-MCNP when coupled with MCNP®, the tool preserves geometric details and allows faster design iterations while reducing the possibility of human error. Recently four improvements have been added that eliminate lost particles and avoid manual repair of CAD defects. The improvements are watertight faceting, robust particle tracking, automatic creation of void space, and overlap tolerance. Sealing adjacent surfaces to create a watertight faceting prevents leakage of particles between surfaces. The particle tracking algorithm was made robust by using methods that ensure numerical consistency and avoid geometric tolerances. The implicit creation of void space reduces human effort otherwise required to explicitly create void space in a CAD engine. The particle tracking algorithm and point membership test were modified to tolerate small overlaps of adjacent volumes. Overlap tolerance eliminates manual repair of CAD models and enables analysis of meshed CAD models undergoing structural deformation. This talk will describe these improvements and demonstrate the resulting capability. Host: Rao V Garimella, 5-2928 T-5. rao@lanl.gov |
