Quantum critical points (or phases) are special locations in the parameter space of a quantum system where the ground state wavefunction has long-range and scale-invariant quantum entanglement between the local degrees of freedom. Even though such points are present only at absolute zero, they are the key to our understanding of a wide variety of experiments at non-zero temperatures on modern quantum materials.
