Genetic variations in temporal samples of DNA sequences from the HIV virus population in an infected person carry the signature of evolutionary forces acting on the population. In this talk I will present a probabilistic framework based on a population genetic model for quantifying the impact of such forces. Application of the framework will be illustrated for data sets from HIV-infected patients. The framework also allows to explore the evolutionary dynamic of the HIV virus population in an infected person, using simulation approach. Although the framework was motivated for understanding HIV virus evolution in an infected person, it can be applicable for the case of other rapidly evolving species.
