Inertial particles in random flows: caustics and multifractals

Gregory Falkovich
Weizmann Institute

I shall review briefly Lagrangian statistical description of the motion of fluid particles. Then I turn to inertial particles, light as bubbles in coca-cola or heavy as fuel droplets in the carburetor of your car. The distribution of such particles is a multi-fractal with superimposed caustics. Among the problems we face here is our inability so far to relate Eulerian and Lagrangian descriptions. I describe few modest advances in theory and some interesting experimental data.
