New Paradigms for Control where Less is More

The widespread reliance on embedded autonomy in all aspects of our lives brings forth a new set of challenges for the control engineer. In this talk, I advocate for new paradigms built around the use of finite alphabet sensing and actuation together with limited computation and control to meet these challenges. I survey our efforts in developing the theoretical foundations of these paradigms, highlighting the central role of information, the need for control design with an eye towards verification, and connections to various traditional and emerging applications.
