Thermal states are ubiquitous in physics, but yet the quantum and classical representations are strikingly different. I will give a new quantum representation, in terms of wave-packets, that helps bridge such gap for free particles. A similar study will be presented for thermal light. This ‘quantum simulation of sunlight’ provides the missing link between natural light with laser pulses. Different lights generate different dynamics. I will present the influence of excitation conditions to the dynamics of open quantum systems applied to photosynthetic light-harvesting systems. In addition, the origin of long-lived coherences in the 2D electronic spectra will be discussed. Finally, I will propose a scheme for the quantum simulation of many-body decoherence in open quantum systems. Host: Sebastian Deffner |
