Generalized Landauer formula for time-dependent potentials and zero bias dc current

Shmuel Gurvitz
Weizmann Institute

Using recently developed single-electron approach for electron transport in mesoscopic (molecular) systems we derived the Landauer-type formula for time-dependent potentials, which can be applied for randomly fluctuating potentials. Using this formula we investigated conditions for appearance of dc current under zero bias voltage. We demonstrate that the effect of quantum coherence plays a crucial role in this phenomenon.
