This presentation covers the research topics and activities in the Nonlinear Dynamics & Energy Harvesting Laboratory (NDEHL). In NDEHL, our research interests are on the interdisciplinary phenomena including structural dynamics, smart materials, vibration and control, fluid-structure interaction, and flight dynamics. Our main objective is to create novel approaches and new devices for energy harvesting, bio-inspired aquatic and aerial structures, renewable energy, and aerospace structures. Some of our experimentally-validated reduced-order models for these multidisciplinary systems are presented. A particular focus is paid on the characterization of existing nonlinear phenomena in aeroelastic systems and energy harvesters. The conceptual design, challenges, and fabrication of energy harvesting systems and drones’ prototypes are shown and deeply discussed. As an example, the sizing process and aerodynamic performance of drones in different solar system bodies are described. Host: Alan Hurd |
