In this talk, I'll illustrate how cryptography can enable new trust models, especially models which distribute and generally lower the requirement for trust. First we'll walk through Satoshi Nakamoto's blockchain design as a solution to integrity among untrusted peers. Then we'll discuss the use of zero knowledge proofs to add confidentiality to an otherwise public blockchain context. Finally, I'll suggest how public blockchains could supplement classified integrity mechanisms to guard against imperfect trust within or among institutions or governments.
