What happens when an electron scatters from an atom in the presence of a laser field? Perhaps the simplest thing that can happen during this laser-assisted electron scattering (LAES) process is that the electrons will absorb or emit an integer number of photons during the scattering process. Here I will describe our experimental and computational LAES studies. In particular, I will focus on our numerous tests of the Kroll-Watson Approximation, with a side trip to discuss our solution of what was a long standing disagreement between theory and experiment. Finally, I will give a few details about our recent work to observe laser-dressing effects in LAES. Host: James Colgan |
