Is There a Solar Model Solution to The Faint Young Sun Paradox?

Ebraheem Farag
LANL, XTD-IDA

To explore the possibility of enhanced solar mass loss, we use standard solar models coupled with physically motivated stellar rotation and magnetic feedback calculations to derive limits on solar mass loss. By exploring various initial conditions and input physics, we place limits on predicted solar rotation profile histories. We predict the total mass loss over the lifetime of the Sun to be Mlost ∼ 0.001 − 0.002M⊙. We also find that most of this mass loss occurs within the first 100 million years of the solar lifetime. Our results discourage modifications to the solar luminosity that deviate from standard solar model predictions. We conclude that solar mass loss does not appear to solve the Faint Young Sun paradox.
