Effect of Network Topology and Routing Strategies on Congestion.

Sameet Sreenivasan
Boston University

We study the onset of congestion on a network with packet flow. The onset of congestion depends on the topology of the network as well as the protocol used to route the packets from the source to the destination. We analyse the Shortest Path protocol on 2d Lattices and Scale Free graphs and explain the causes of congestion. We also analyse two alternative routing strategies and compare their performance to the Shortest Path protocol. Further goals for the summer will be outlined.
