Advanced signal detection for magnetic read channel

Oleg Zaboronski
University of Warwick

Modern magnetic read channels are characterized by data-dependent correlated noise. In my talk I will explain the origin of such noise and review methods of extracting signal from noisy read data. In particular, I will review the evolution of application of Viterbi algorithm to data detection from the original IBM PRIV channel to modern perpendicular recording channels.
