SanderUniversity of Michigan Highly malignant brain tumors such as Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) form complex growth patterns. For these systems there is a central tumor which proliferates rapidly, and also sheds invasive cells for which proliferation is down-regulated and motility is large. These form secondary tumors elsewhere. We formulate a model for this sort of growth using a combination of reaction-diffusion equations and discrete modeling. Our model can give a way to assess the importance of various processes, and a way to explore and analyze transitions between different growth regimes.
