Helium Diffusion in Tungsten: A Kinetic Monte Carlo Model on the Nano-scale

Arjun Dillon, Zephyr Penoyre, Amethyst Radcliffe, Amitoj Singh

The helium byproduct in a nuclear fusion reactor is removed by a tungsten divertor. When the helium and tungsten interact, a material called fuzz can form on the divertor and interfere with the operation of the reactor. We use a Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) model to investigate the interaction of helium and tungsten, and present the issues that arise when KMC is applied to helium and tungsten interaction.
