CANCELLED: Mean-Field Modeling of Short-Range Ordering/Clustering Kinetics Using Concentration Waves

Anas Abu-Odeh
University of California, Berkeley

Short-range ordering/clustering (SRO/C) is a phenomenon in disordered solid solution alloys where different species exhibit non-random correlations. SRO/C has been of particular interest in recent years due to the question of its impact on and existence in compositionally complex alloys. This talk will discuss a method of modeling SRO/C formation kinetics in binary FCC alloys using a mean-field model of concentration waves, circumventing the computationally costly requirements of kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC). The mean-field model is shown to reproduce kMC timescales to within an order of magnitude for a variety of temperatures and alloy compositions and requires much simpler parameterization. We will discuss the advantages and limitations of the model, as well as the extension to multicomponent systems.
